Rebecca Manring delivered the 2024 Professor Chinmayi Chatterjee Memorial Lecture on April 3 in the Bengali Department of Jadavpur University in Kolkata. This lecture marked her time over 30 years ago on her Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Award, when she was affiliated with the Sanskrit Department at Jadavpur and worked closely with the late Professor Chatterjee. In the lecture she described how Professor Chatterjee’s work influenced her own, and her unlikely transition from Sanskrit theology and hagiography to the much earthier Middle Bengali maṅgala-kāvya of her research under her current Fulbright Professional Excellence Award.
