- Course Description
What is religion? How do we study it? What do religious people think and do? Why are some places, practices, objects, and experiences considered to be religious, and others are not? This course invites students to engage the many ways that scholars of religion have tried to answer these questions. Students will learn how views on religion have been shaped by various historical contexts and explore some themes in the academic study of religion, such as religion and colonialism, religion and race, and religion and gender.
