What is the power of the demon in popular imagination? What is it about demons and demon possession that arouse and capture our imagination? How are demons imagined, and who/what gets represented as demonic? What religious, political, and racial ideologies inform certain imaginations of the demonic? And how have ideas about demons developed in religion and popular culture? In asking these questions, this course draws upon film, television, and music. In doing so, this course explores the complex intersection of religion and popular culture. This course also explores the intersections of race, the figure of the demon, and religion in film, television, and music.
