Colby Townsend recently published a conference review in Early American Literature (UNC Press) and will have an essay out in the coming weeks in the journal Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought (University of Illinois Press). Over the last hundred years scholars have problematized the fact that large quotations of Isaiah (twenty-one chapters) appear almost verbatim in The Book of Mormon. Townsend's work points out that the academic understanding of the composition of Isaiah is complex, and those working on early Mormonism should better incorporate current biblical criticism in their work.
