Joe Decker participated as the representative of the East Asian Studies Center (EASC) in a statewide Sports, Leisure, and Tourism: Cases from Around the World social studies workshop for 6-12 social studies teachers hosted by the School of Education’s Global Initiatives Program. Joe’s talk, “The Intersection of Tourism and Religion in Japan,” explained the religious origins of modern tourism in Japan and customs that are still practiced today. During the workshop Joe worked closely with teachers to create engaging, student-centered learning activates to introduce Japanese history, religion, culture and customs in their classrooms and curriculum.
