It is with the heaviest of hearts that we report that alumna Nancy Hiller passed away on Aug 29th. Nancy received her MA in Religious Studies from IU in 1996 and then went into woodworking. Nancy went on to be an accomplished and beloved woodworker and an author of many books. Among the many the beautiful pieces she built was a Shaker desk that Prof. Steve Stein’s family commissioned at his retirement. She was an extraordinarily proud alum of the department, as is clear from her Herald Times obituary (written by her sister and husband, in consultation with Nancy before her death). An obituary and tribute also appeared recently in both the Lost Art Press and the NY Times, which exemplifies the scope of her reach.
