Rebecca Manring spoke at the 37th annual symposium, Sanskrit Traditions in the Modern World, at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies, on May 28. Her paper entitled “Hanuman’s Leaps of Faith: Intertextuality in the Dharma-mangala” led to some productive discussion on the subject of intertextuality in premodern Indic literature.
Manring also delivered the keynote address at the South Asian Language Teachers’ Association (SALTA) on June 26. In her talk, “Don’t Give Up Until It’s Done.” SALTA organizers surprised her by having asked former student Dr. Peter Knapczyk to introduce Manring before the talk. Manring praised the remarkable dedication and creativity of language instructors continuing to teach during the pandemic.
