In June Heather Blair will be working with the 2021 summer incubator at IU’s Institute for Digital Arts and Humanities to develop new techniques for research on Japanese prayer-texts (ganmon). By focusing on the social networks and literary artistry that shaped medieval Buddhist devotion, Blair’s project, Reverently I Pray, challenges conventional views of prayer as a mode of unmediated communication with the divine.
