Mihee Kim-Kort, a doctoral candidate in our department and a Presbyterian minister, recently published a New York Times op-ed in response to the recent Atlanta shootings. Did racism or theology or gender motivate the shootings in Georgia? She says “All of the above.” In response to the event, Kim-Kort challenges “Who are you? Where are you from? What do you believe? To move through this world as an Asian who is American is to exist under the gaze of white supremacy. In other words, we have to constantly give an accounting of ourselves to to justify and explain why we are here.”
