On March 5-7, Profs. Sarah Imhoff and Cooper Harriss convened the first of two related research workshops, titled “Decentering American Religion,” in conjunction with IU’s Europe Gateway in Berlin, the American Religion journal, and the Center for Religion and the Human. Scholars from Ghana, Germany, Ireland, and the UK gathered via Zoom, aiming to “decenter” the study of American Religion—away from the US—and to build regional and hemispheric networks of scholars in Africa and Europe who “do” American religion in exciting and unusual ways. A follow up meeting of the group is planned for Spring, 2022 in Berlin.
