Professor Sonia Velázquez, together with colleagues Leah Middlebrook (U of Oregon), Felipe Valencia (Utah State U), and Víctor Sierra (NYU) looked back to the early modern tradition of shared poetry readings as one response to the isolation of quarantine. Together they organized a virtual poetry festival bringing together faculty and students from across the US, Europe, and Latin America committed to reading aloud a Renaissance or Baroque poem for the duration of the months of April and May. Poems included works by canonical writers in Spanish, Portuguese, and Catalan as well as compositions in Náhuatl and Quechua, and they are available now on YouTube.
