Maggie Slaughter has been writing short think pieces for the Genealogies of Modernity Project at the Collegium Institute for Catholic Thought and Culture based at the University of Pennsylvania. Her first piece “Weighted Branches: Wishing Trees, Holy Wells, and Vibrant Matter” is a reflection on material culture and mourning. She won first place in the department’s Graduate Essay Contest for her paper “Husks of Hooded Men: Capuchin Mummies in Early Modern Sicily” earlier in the Spring.
