The Woman Question in Jewish Studies, a bold new book co-authored by Sarah Imhoff and Susannah Heschel, was featured at a recent workshop presented by the Borns Jewish Studies Program. This timely work confronts the status of women and nonbinary people in the field of Jewish Studies, arguing that both intellectually and ethically, the culture of the field must change. Drawing on quantitative data, the authors explore the representation of women as editors and contributors to journals and anthologies, as well as citation patterns in scholarly literature. The book makes a compelling case for structural change and outlines concrete steps toward a more inclusive field.
