Familiar names have turned up in American Religion’s new online series Back Pages, which kicked off this Fall. Asking scholars to reflect in the present tense on a publication from early in their career, invited authors effectively consider “the present in retrospect.” In October 28’s installment, PhD alumnus Jason Bivins wrangles with his 2003 book The Fracture of Good Order’s “developmental arc that led from 1960s discontent to the brooding anxieties of post-Reagan America.” On October 30, Prof. Candy Gunther Brown wrote on her first book The Word in the World (2004). Brown reflects on the impact of technological developments on archival experience, continuity in the practice of reading overtime, and her recent, multidisciplinary research. Be on the lookout for Winnifred Fallers Sullivan’s contribution coming in mid-November.
