Graduate student Sweta Dutta, joined by IU Religious Studies faculty member Rebecca Manring, attended the Fifth Middle Bangla Retreat and Workshop in Győr, Hungary. The retreat gathered an international group of scholars to study premodern Bengali texts, including caryāpadas, brajabūlī poetry, maṅgalkāvyas, and pīr kathās. Organized by Professor Manring, the workshop fostered collaboration and intensive philological engagement. Dutta presented her text Fakirrāmi, which is central to her dissertation research on Bengali literary and religious traditions gaining invaluable experience from the hands-on textual study and cross-disciplinary dialogue.
