It was standing room only on a late semester Friday afternoon (May 2, 2025), at Prof. Constance Furey and Dr. Rebecca Schorsch’s interactive workshop on their teaching book project Objects of Study. Over 35 undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty gathered at the Center for Religion and the Human to read, write, and think together around several of the co-authors shared terms including clocks, aliveness, table, and poem. In addition to inviting participation in a version of their unique writing process, Furey and Schorsch read excerpts from their manuscript and provoked conversations about the interactions between study, religion, and relationality. Held on the last Friday of classes, the overwhelming engagement with Objects of Study was a testament to both the project and the department’s commitment to celebrating curiosity.
