Prof. Michael Ing gave a talk titled “The (Im)Possibilities of Indigenous Philosophy,” part of a series by the Institute for Indigenous Knowledge, Impact: Bridging Knowledge & Community Colloquium. Ing explored many questions: Why are so few Indigenous peoples a part of the faculty in philosophy departments? What would it take to include Indigenous knowledge in this discipline? Is this a desirable outcome for Indigenous peoples? His presentation addressed these questions by thinking through what a Hawai’i philosophy might look like and included a discussion about the responsibilities of studying Indigenous knowledge as well as criteria for joining longstanding philosophical conversations among Western philosophers.
