Steve Selka (Associate Professor Emeritus) attended the American Anthropological Association meeting in Tampa, Florida in November to give a paper titled, “The Secular Sacred: Heritage Tourism and Spiritual Journeys in Bahia, Brazil.” His paper examined the relationship between cultural heritage, the sacred, and tourism, as well as how locals and tourists draw upon the vocabulary of spirituality to negotiate the tension between those frames.
