On October 3, Prof. Kirsten Macfarlane (U of Chicago Divinity School) visited IU to speak about “Lay Learning and the Bible in the Seventeenth-Century Atlantic World.” This talk, which attracted a full and lively audience of undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty from several departments, considered the relevance of scholarly techniques of Biblical interpretation to an under-studied group of Puritan lay men and women on both sides of the Atlantic.
