Sarah Dees (2015 IU Ph.D.) published an article about Preston Singletary’s Raven and the Box Of Daylight with The Association for Public Religion and Intellectual Life. Dees talks about how Indigenous art is often rich in symbolism, containing cultural commentary, history, and beliefs as well as visually aesthetic qualities and how Singletary’s artwork successfully recounts the narrative in a unique, immersive experience in a recent touring exhibition. Dees is an ethnohistorian of religion, race, and culture in (and beyond) the United States and an assistant professor at Iowa State University.
