The Abyss or Life Is Simple: Reading Knausgaard Writing Religion (University of Chicago Press, 2022) by the Knausgaard Reading and Writing Collective, including three members of the department–Hannah Garvey, Cooper Harriss, and Winnifred Sullivan–was featured in The Immanent Frame’s forum on experimental books. A number of essays support the book’s selection as part of this forum featuring four books that raise important questions about experimentation in scholarship, including what rethinking the scholarly book opens up for the study of religion and public life.
