Steven Kaplin, PhD candidate in Religious Studies, gave a workshop in early December to Jewish Studies faculty and graduate students titled “Jewish Spiritual Theology.” Kaplin argues that theorists of Jewish spirituality utilize theology as a methodology by which to both comfortably situate themselves within Jewish religion—spiritual in order to be religious—and discover Jewish iterations of the types of ideas and practices common to other spiritualities.
