Kevin Jaques presented the Beta version of the Sīrah Defragmentation and Reconstruction (SDR) project’s Arabic reader at the Middle Eastern Studies Association annual conference in Montreal, Canada. The SDR is the next stage of the project that began in 2007, which seeks to “defragment” and reconstruct one of the earliest Arabic-Islamic works, the Sīrah Rasūl Allāh (The Journey of the Messenger of God) composed by Muḥammad b. Isḥāq b. Yasār (85/704-150/767). The overall project is only about 40% complete and the SDR reader will be used as a prototype for additional funding applications from institutions such as the National Endowment for the Humanities and the European Research Council.
