Prof. Rebecca Manring participated in the all-day Vaishnava Sensorium symposium during the Annual Conference on South Asia in Madison, Wisconsin; in her paper “What Makes a Woman, or, Can We Trust Our Senses? Visual Testimony in Viṣṇudāsa’s Sītā-guṇa-kadamba” she explores the tale of two male devotees who wanted so desperately to become the disciples of a female guru that they became women themselves. Manring presented a second paper, “Magic and Maya in Rūparāma’s Dharma-maṅgala” as part of a panel of senior scholars working with Middle Bengali materials. She also participated in the annual meeting of the American Association of Bangladesh Studies, for which she serves as Vice President.
