For about three and a half weeks this past summer, Jason Patrick Smith was in Venice, Italy studying Classical Japanese and kanbun at a language summer school program hosted by the School for International Education (SIE) at the Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia. The language summer school program at Ca’ Foscari is in its second year. It also offers a Classical Chinese track. Keiko Ono, a Japanese lecturer at Princeton University, was the instructor for the Classical Japanese and kanbun classes, which were supplemented with lectures on topics related to both Classical Japanese and Chinese.
