Rebecca Manring travelled to Jagiellonian University (founded 1364!) in Cracow, Poland for the first meeting of the Body and Embodiment in the Middle Bengali Imaginary (BEMBI) research group, sponsored by the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies and Jagiellonian University. This small group of scholars from the US, UK, Poland, and India will be working in several different genres of premodern Bengali literature, meeting virtually every month in 2023 to work through texts philologically, in spring 2024 to discuss fully elaborated papers, and will finally produce a volume of essays with translations.
