Constance Furey recently presented a paper, “Friendship Incorporated,” to the Illuminating Friendship Research Network at Cambridge University, exploring the ways that poet George Herbert’s accounts of human, divine, and biblical friendship aligned with early modern theologies of commerce and theological justifications for colonizing ventures in the Americas.
