About Dale Spicer

Dale Spicer joined the Department of Religious Studies in 2013 after receiving his B.A. in History and Middle Eastern and North African Studies from the University of Michigan. He is the recent recipient of the department’s Graduate Award for Teaching Excellence. His most recent works explore how modern scholars find “disability” in premodern texts, a theme that he hopes to expand in a dissertation project after his qualifying exams. He is particularly interested in how a 9th century Mu’tazili theologian, al-Jahiz, presents the human body in his works.
