Course Description

What is the Hebrew Bible? Who wrote it and when? How did its earliest readers interpret it? This course will equip students with working knowledge of the contents of the Hebrew Bible, and the historical contexts of its composition. It will also introduce students to the diverse claims and concerns of the ancient Jewish communities who produced, edited, and interpreted this collection. This course will work within three major interpretive spheres: the historical, literary, and ethical features of the Hebrew Bible.
